The warmth of the sun. Fleeting shadows. Birdsong, footsteps, and the faint hum of cars. Interior. The sun is setting. Exterior. A reflection of dazzling light reminds of the beauty that surrounds. Time isn’t frozen, but the realm of perception is at once completely perceivable and magically ephemeral. The world shines in echoes of past experiences. Where and when are questions which, in this moment, have no answers and infinite possibilities. The mundane — complex and beautiful — refuses to be fully known.
Photographic abstractions, like other forms of abstract art, challenge a viewer to project imagination outside of the frame which the image exists in. Unique to photographic abstraction is the direct recording of light; a process of documentation occurs during the creation of every photograph. Through this reference to the outside world and abstraction of concrete forms, I find a path to discuss my worldview and the sense of spirituality I find in art.
