The château is listed as a Monument historique since 1927. It is located near Tours and was the favorite residence of King Louis XI of France (reigned 1461 to 1483), who died there on 30 August 1483. Saint Francis of Paola also resided there with the king at the time of his death. The present building is only a small part of the château originally built by Louis XI in the 15th century. The original château had three wings in the shape of a U. It would have been a country manor, and is somewhat rustic in its appearance of brick walls decorated with large stone quoins, and at the same time somewhat fortified. The interior has linen-fold carved paneling.
