Ploumanac'h Lighthouse: Overall view

figure
posted on 2017-06-30, 00:00 authored by G. Massiot & cie
A seaside resort and fishing port on the Pink Granite Coast, Ploumanac'h is noted for its enormous, pink, weathered rock formations. A pathway runs along the rock-lined beach and visitors can then take the 'Sentier des Douaniers' (Customs' Path) leading up to the lighthouse. The lighthouse gets its common name from the nearby village of Ploumanac'h meaning in French 'monks of the parish'. The official name 'Lighthouse Mean Ruz' is a corruption of the Breton 'Men Ruz', meaning red stone. The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1945, but as a tower only in neo-Gothic style.
