Looking south with the Piazza del Popolo on the other side. This side has three plaques with inscriptions, one to Pius III.\u000a\u000aOuter face (1561) by Nanni di Baccio Bigio, based on a design by Michelangelo. The gate was restored for the arrival of Queen Christina of Sweden in 1655 by Bernini who added the inscription on the inside of the gate together with the scrolls and the arms of Alexander VII above it. p. 253
