Lassus began his career as an architectural historian, architect and restorer. His religious architecture was based in his belief that architects of the 19th century should apply the rational and functional precepts of Early Gothic in order to find the way towards a new architecture. He did work in other styles for his secular architecture. The sculpture is by Aim\u00E9 Napoleon Perrey; Lassus set the iconographic program throughout. Louis Steinheil designed the stained glass.
