The Broletto or Arengario, is the 13th-14th century palace of the civic commune, raised on all sides on a high arcade (loggia) of pointed arches (used as a city market); this supports the upper hall used for or municipal councils and assemblies of merchants. There is a tall square machiolated tower terminating in a sharp central cone-shaped spire. The south facade features a small stone balcony added in 1330; from here local decrees were read to the populace.
