An Architecture for General-purpose Financial Reporting – the Development of IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards

In 2020, the IFRS Foundation explored a role in sustainability reporting, leading to the ISSB’s establishment. Various initiatives shaped its development, and in June 2023, the IFRS Foundation released its first two IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. These standards integrate sustainability into financial reporting, aligning with IFRS Accounting Standards. This article series examines the ISSB’s architectural design, its evolution, and how it connects sustainability disclosures with financial statements.
