Racial Disparities in Cancer Screening Practices: Hispanic/Latina Women of South Bend

Finds a lower risk of cancer among Latinas but a higher death-rate in comparison to non-Hispanic white counterparts due to a lack of cancer awareness and screening. Analyzes inhibitors of health awareness including: socioeconomic status, education and knowledge, health access and insurance, documentation status, family support, and acculturation. Most common cancers among Latinas include breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer. Quantitative data gathered via St. Joseph Regional Medical Center’s 2012 Oncology Annual Report and Memorial Hospital of South Bend Regional Cancer Center’s 2013 Anual Report.
