The effects of climate change will require Tajikistan to transition or diversify from hydroelectric power, which provides 95 percent of its energy, to other kinds of renewable energy. Although transition or diversification away from hydroelectric power is necessary, it will come at the expense of jobs and economic challenges in the region. This policy brief provides policymakers with critical guidance and recommendations on how Tajikistan can achieve a just energy transition, including principles to consider as well as a mechanism for successful implementation.
