Inclusion, Interconnectivity, and equality: Recommendations for the United Nations Pact of the Future from the FuturePeace Network
This policy report presents the recommendations of the global network of peace and conflict researchers, “FuturePeace.” Directed at United Nations (UN) Agencies, the report offers content-oriented recommendations for the Pact of the Future, as summarized in the annex below, and process-oriented recommendations to improve the procedures for gathering and facilitating input from civil society. These process-oriented recommendations to the UN include recognizing academic networks as critical components of civil society, developing platforms to bridge the divide between research and policy, and streamlining and clarifying processes for participation from civil society organizations. It then reflects on the experience of creating FuturePeace, which works collaboratively towards a more inclusive, interconnected, and equal future. These experiences illustrate key issues involved in forming such global networks in which academics aim to impact governance and peace and conflict global norms.
