The contemporary architecture of healthcare environments is an architecture of efficiency. Healthcare environments currently focus primarily on the functional side of architecture and less on the way patients, visitors, and staff experience these spaces. In a purely functional environment, the human experience of these spaces is lost. This is detrimental to the health of building occupants. The architecture of healthcare should embody the caring attitude of healthcare professionals by creating environments that are sensitive to the needs of patients, staff, and visitors.
