Delivering Quality Produce: A Robust, Green Model to Improve Tropical Fruit Agrifood Supply Chain Exports from Latin America to the United States
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, fast-growing economies must incentivize carbon reduction in the private sector, particularly in intensive industries like agricultural food (agrifood) supply chains. As an economy on the fast track, this study centers on Latin American avocado and banana exports to the United States. A qualitative case-study method identified several fragility spots in the collection and verification of sustainability data, as well as a need for greater knowledge building for green and robust supply lines. Future research and implications explored how the public, private, and education sectors can reinforce institutional support for a sustainable supply chain that reduces its carbon footprint.
