Nuevo Rio: A Design Proposal for the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art in San Antonio, Texas'

thesis

Architecture should have the ability to foster connectivity within a community while at the same time embody a character of place. Connectivity is possible with an attention to the principles of good urban design: walkability, use of human scale and proportion, and sequential engagement of space within the context of the public versus the private realm. But it is through the employment of native materials and construction methods, the symbolic, tectonic, and aesthetic justification of certain forms, and recognition of local heritage that architecture is able to create a character of place.
