The Catholic church has a long tradition of setting aside places of special devotion to which the faithful make pilgrimages for a period of reflection and prayer. These sites play a necessary role in the spiritual life of the faithful. In a world of constant noise and contention, it is important to create such places to provide a retreat from urban life, a place of quiet prayer and meditation, and an opportunity to reflect on specific teachings of the Church.
