The emergence and decline of large-scale manufacturing created unsustainable planning and production methods that deteriorated the sense of place, cultural identity, and local construction methods in communities across the United States. A renewal of education based on traditional building practices focusing on local materials, craftsmanship, and durability can revive a community's character, culture, and sustainability.
