- Description:
Landi was an Italian architect and draughtsman, active in Brazil. In 1753 he went to Brazil to take part in the work of demarcating the Portuguese-Spanish frontier set out in the Treaty of Madrid (1750). Work began on the cathedral in 1748 and was taken over by Landi in 1755. Landi finished the facade, adding the two towers and pediment . Although the overall style is Baroque-Rococo, elements can be considered as precursors of Neoclassicism in northern Brazil.
