Monuments -- political aspects, Art history -- 20th century, Sculpture -- United States, Political History, Cemetery -- Paris, France, Public Memorials, Social Movements, Public Murals
    Abstract:

This publication records selected papers presented at the 2018 Midwest Art History Society Annual Conference held in Indianapolis. The essays in this e-volume contribute to contemporary conversations about public monuments, broadly defined as commemorative objects, images, and spaces, and the responses to them, including the calls to remove, relocate, or destroy them. Furthermore, the portrayal of older females is not singularly vilified and they are not absent as in comparison to previous Disney princesses films. Through culti...

    Description:
This paper reveals how Caillebotte participated in, yet also set himself apart from the Impressionist movement. While Caillebotte included his own works in the Impressionist Exhibitions, his style does not completely align with typical Impressionist approaches: he celebrates Haussmannian architecture, which the older members avoided, because he was too young to know medieval Paris; he paints with calculated brushstrokes, a result of his Academic training at the École des Beaux-Arts; and he ut...
