    Abstract:

As climate changes, coastal homeowners are potentially crucial actors in reducing the risks to property and human life from rising seas and increased hurricane activity. Absent strict, enforceable regulations mandating retrofitting of existing homes or major changes in homeowner insurance requirements, coastal resilience in a changing climate will largely reflect private, voluntary decisions of millions of individuals. However, research is scarce on the current risk level of U.S. coastal home…

    Abstract:

It is my view that a bookplate should reflect the donor’s interests and accomplishments as well as the symbols of the library where the collection is housed. The accomplishments and reputation of Marston Morse are so great that my first task, after studying hls life and career, was to somehow narrow my choices from dozens of significant milestones to a meaningful and manageable few.

    Abstract:

This work is devoted to integration of semi-infinite and finite non-Abelian lattices of Toda-type, that is, nonlinear differential-difference equations that can be written in a Lax form

L˙(t) = [L(t), A(t)] , where L is a tridiagonal matrix of order N ≤ ∞ whose entries are bounded operators in some Banach or Hilbert space and A is a finite band matrix of the same order whose entries depend on those of L. We develop an inverse spectral problem method for such equations that generalizes the on…

This poster seeks to communicate the ways the Undergraduate Library Research Award (ULRA) not only spotlights superb research and writing by undergraduates, but also highlights the students’ own words to describe the value and benefits of the Libraries’ resources and services.

The Objectives listed are: Using the evolution of ND’s ULRA as the example, session participants will be able to create

    Description:

Vector-Borne Disease Network (VecNet)’s digital library provides part of a common analytical framework to assemble data on malaria transmission and make it accessible for the purposes of computational modeling. This poster-paper presented at IEEE/ACM Joint Conference on Digital Libraries, Sept. 2014 (DOI:10.1109/JCDL.2014.6970212) reports on VecNet digital library development, key decisions related to metadata standards, design, the central role of metadata and authority files in its architec…

  • Abstract:

The Badin Bible, a 1790 Mathew Carey Douay-Rheims Bible in English published in Philadelphia, was acquired by the Special Collections department of the Hesburgh Libraries in July 2014. The Bible was likely a gift from Bishop John Carroll to Stephen Badin on the occasion of his ordination to the priesthood in 1793. Badin later served as a missionary in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. He ministered to Native Americans in northern Indiana, and purchased the land that now is the Univer…
