This collection consists of the projects students have submitted for Professor Noriko Hanabusa’s Extensive Reading in Japanese course since Fall 2014. To complete the course, students were required to submit a story-telling project that combined textual and visual elements, and to present it on the last day of class. At the end of the course, many of the students donated their works to the University Archives. A number of the projects were digitized by the Hesburgh Libraries, others were digitally submitted. A majority of the submitted projects were picture books—some with hand-drawn illustrations—of original stories or translations of tales. Students have also submitted essays, some with photos, about their experiences in Japan. The genres and forms of the projects have become increasingly varied, to include videos (live performances, and animated cartoons), video games, musical pieces, board games, etc.

Since Fall 2015, the course has been taught in two sections: beginners/intermediate, and advanced levels.
