Description

This collection is a tribute to the life and work of James Lee Massey, an information theorist and cryptographer. Massey earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University in Notre Dame in 1956. After three years of service in the military, he pursued a PhD at MIT. Massey returned to Notre Dame as a professor, teaching from 1962-1977, where he earned recognition as both a proflic engineer and a favored professor. From 1980 until his retirement in 1998, Massey was a faculty member at ETH Zurich. He passed away in 2013 after a battle with cancer. His accolades include the Claude E. Shannon Award (1988), the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal (1992), and the Marconi Prize (1999).
