    The seed-mediated growth of noble metal nanostructures with planar geometries requires the use of seeds lined with parallel stacking faults so as to provide a break in symmetry in an otherwise isotropic metal.     A single-step method for the preparation of metastable ε-Fe3N nanoparticles by combustion of reactive gels containing iron nitrate (Fe(NO3)3) and hexamethylene-tetramine (C6H12N4) in an inert atmosphere is reported.     We report the results from the investigation of the mechanisms of self-sustained reaction in mechanically induced TiN/B nanocomposites.
