Gay Poetics of the Passion or Proof Hangs on the Marble Walls

thesis
posted on 2017-04-10, 00:00 authored by Luis Lopez-Maldonado

This full-length manuscript is a complex collection of poems and prayers told through the voice of a queer man of color. Contemporary themes are threaded through the work, offering a new perspective to traditional views on Catholicism, and verse poetry. The author blends genders, sexes, races, classes, and truths to create an over-satisfying fruit-smoothie intended to fill, over-fill, and spill. Some of the themes discussed in the manuscript include, but are not limited to: America, whiteness, racism, sexism, cannibalism, terrorism, migration, immigration, displacement, violence, silence, abuse, rape, love, queerness, gender, sex, and sexuality, among many others.
