The castle was built in 1425 on the site of a previous medieval castle by Henri de Colombier. In 1530, it was set on fire by Bernese troops. Of the original castle by Henri Colombier, the donjon, several towers, outbuildings, the surrounding wall and the gate house remain. In 1641 it was acquired by the de Senarclens family. The castle is currently privately owned and can not be visited. It is an extraordinary example of the tendency to build in an elaborate style at a time when aesthetic elements generally outweighed concerns for security.
