Abstract

Shows how Mexican immigrants encounter a new cultural construct of adolescence in the United States. Examines how conflicting inter-generational cultural experiences affect adolescence among Mexican-American youth in South Bend. Features interviews with young females preparing for and experiencing quinceaƱera and young males going through a defacto masculine rite of passage into gangs.
