Utrecht is the center of the Dutch railroad network and the location of the head office of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways). This building is the second headquarters (now known as HGB II), built by Jacob F. Klinkhamer (later professor at the Delft Polytechnic), a student of Gugel, working in his international Renaissance Revival style. There are now 4 HGB buildings, the most recent is a skyscraper (1990, HGB IV), all clustered together. HGB III is the well known 'De Inktpot', (1918-1921), the largest brick building in the Netherlands. They all still function as office buildings for railway-related companies.
