Belfry and Cloth Hall: Overall view, Cloth Hall to the right

The Gothic Revival palace (partially visible to the left in this view) was not completed until ca. 1900-1911.\u000a\u000aThe city hall of Mechelen is located on the east side of the Grote Markt and consists of three parts: the Palace of the Grand Council, the belfry (belfort) and the Cloth Hall (Lakenhal). The cloth hall was built in the 14th century, as was the belfry. The belfry tower was never finished as planned and part of the building to the north was demolished to make way for the Palace in 1526. The Palace remained unfinished for nearly 500 years, until it was completed in a Flamboyant Gothic Revival style ca. 1900-1911. The belfry is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
