Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Paris: Overall view of facade

Tucked away in the Rue Daru in the 8th arrondissement, this orthodox church was built in 1861 for the Russian community in Paris, which numbered about 1,000 at the time. It was built with subscription fees and a donation from Tsar Alexander II. The Russian \u00E9migr\u00E9 community exploded after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Most of them settled in this area known as 'Little Russia'. The church is a Greek cross plan terminating in four apses. It became a cathedral in 1922, under Archbishop Eulogius.
